Staff Sgt. Joseph Maynard, 338th Recruiting Squadron enlisted accessions recruiter, joined the Air Force five years ago because he felt something was missing in his life.

"I can remember sitting in class at college and watching the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and wanting to do more," he said. "The desire to serve and to be a part of something bigger than myself is more rewarding than anything else."

"We are the first line of what most understand as the Air Force," he said. "We set the bar for those we meet and for those who join. What inspires me the most is taking an individual who might lack direction, allow them to see what we do, then invite them to do the same. Seeing the transition of that individual after they complete basic military training and technical school makes this career worth the time and effort it requires."

Maynard's personal motto is 'the greatest good to the greatest number for the longest time.'

"Each day when I go to work, I look for an applicant that will hold to my personal motto," he said. "While the Air Force core values are engrained in all of us, this also represents what Air Force Recruiting Service is looking for. We are looking for a person who will not only serve his country, but make it a career, have a positive impact on those around him, become a superb leader and train others to do the same."
