U.S. Air Force participates in Snocross championship Published March 29, 2011 By Tech. Sgt. David McCarrison 343rd Recruiting Squadron ELKO, Minn. -- Twenty-eight Delayed Enlistment Program members recited the Oath of Enlistment, led by Lt. Col. Derek Dill, 343rd Recruiting Squadron commander, at the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series at the Elkco Speedway March 12. The AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series is an eight-race series pitting the world's best snowmobile riders against one another. During the weekend, the 343d Recruiting Squadron, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., along with Col. Michael Tillema, Air Force Recruiting Service strategic marketing and communications director, and Chief Master Sgt. Ruban Gonzalez, AFRS command chief, seized the opportunity to shape this event and spread the word about the many opportunities and benefits of joining the U.S. Air Force. Recruiters visited Faribault High School along with Steve Scheuring, owner of Scheuring Speed Sports, and his racing team. The 343rd recruiters conducted a classroom presentation and students had the opportunity to tour the team's trailer. Recruiters also gave television interviews, radio interviews, presented trophies to winning riders, handed out promotional items and launched t-shirts into the crowd from a t-shirt cannon. The riders from the team also signed promotional items to hand out, such as a racing team jersey. Overall, the event generated interest from approximately 200 potential applicants interested in learning more about the Air Force.
