A group of new Air Force recruits were in the spotlight and seemed larger than life February 27 when they were sworn in front of an estimated 70,000 spectators during the Monster Jam racing event at Cowboys Stadium.

Twenty members of the 344th Recruiting Squadron's Delayed Enlistment Program took the Oath of Enlistment in front of the jam-packed crowd, who were on hand to see the Air Force swear-in at the beginning of the night and stayed to the very end as the Air Force-sponsored truck "U.S. Air Force Afterburner" won the racing crown.

"Speed, power and precision are characteristics shared by Monster Jam and the U.S. Air Force, but the Air Force's real strength comes from its people," said Lt. Col. Sean McKenna, 344th RCS commander, who officiated the ceremony. "It's truly a privilege to enlist 20 of America's finest young men and women in front of such a supportive crowd."

If the opportunity to showcase the Air Force's newest Airmen in front of a massive crowd was not special enough, the fact that the ceremony was broadcast on the world's largest high-definition video screen made the experience even more memorable.

"I was so nervous I was shaking," said recruit Nolin Burgin. "It was awesome to be in front of that many people."

Once the swear-in was complete, the recruits remained in the spotlight for another few minutes as Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" song played and the crowd cheered as the recruits appeared on the 180-foot long video board.

Never before have Air Force recruits been on display with such size and clarity.
