Miami, FL – The National Basketball Association’s Miami Heat, held a military appreciation night to honor the newest recruits in the Miami, Florida area. Forty young men and women were administered the oath of enlistment in front of a crowd of approximately 15,000 Miami Heat fans. The new recruits were sworn in by Lt. Col. Greg Thomas, U.S. Air Force Thunderbird team commander. One of the United States Air Forces newest recruits, Carlos Encarnacion, 21, said “I felt honored to be sworn in front of my home town crowd and I am honored to be part of the greatest Air Force in the world”. The efforts of the Miami Heat to honor the United States military show the patriotism of the Miami area and help boost the recruiting efforts of the men and women of the 333rd Recruiting Squadron, Melbourne, Fla. The United States Air Force Thunderbirds Aerial Demonstration Team was in Miami and Homestead, Florida to be the main event in the Wings over Homestead Air Show November 7 - 8, 2009.
