A local family made a major commitment to the U.S. Air Force May 15. What makes this story stand out from others is how it all took place.

Hannah Reschman of Grand Prairie took the oath as a commissioned officer in the Air Force that morning. Moments later, with the ink still wet on her officer paperwork, she performed her first official duty as a second lieutenant, giving the oath of enlistment to her brother, Christopher Reschman, also of Grand Prairie.

Hannah enters the Air Force as a nurse and will attend Commissioned Officer Training beginning June 29 at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.

"I have great respect for soldiers around the world who are defending our country every day, 24 hours a day," Lieutenant Reschman said of her reason for serving. "As a nurse in the Air Force, I feel that I can give back to my country by providing excellent medical care to our military personnel around the world."

Christopher leaves for Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB, Texas, May 26, where he will also be enrolled in the Community College of the Air Force. By completing BMT, he receives four semester hours of college credit. Then he will attend technical training school and will continue to earn more college hours while serving his country.

"To serve my country is what drives me," he said. "It is not only about you, but something that is bigger than you."
