Joining the family business Published March 27, 2009 By Staff Sgt. Adrian Bray 331st Recruiting Squadron MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- During a recent visit to the Military Entrance Processing Station here, the vice commander for Air Force Recruiting Service had the opportunity to participate in a ceremony marking a tradition for a local family. During his visit to the 331st Recruiting Squadron and MEPS, Col. Stan Chase conducted a swear-in ceremony for Air Force recruit Ryan Scheeres with his parents looking on. This was an especially meaningful event for the vice commander as he prepares to retire. "I can't tell you just how proud and honored I was to administer the oath to Ryan," Colonel Chase expressed to parents Roger and Junell Scheeres, both retired Air Force first sergeants. "Your words, and most notably your actions, reflected your sincere and personal commitment to the future of the Air Force even as your own active duty service is completed in the next few weeks," said Roger Scheeres of the colonel's participation in the ceremony. "Your comments reinforced our impression of the professionalism and camaraderie that comes from affiliation with the military and specifically the United States Air Force. "As parents, we have been proud to see Ryan consider his career options and choose service to his country," Roger Scheeres said. "As Colonel Chase so aptly noted in the ceremony, Ryan has just 'joined the family business,' where myself, my wife, Junell and our oldest son, Jamison (U.S. Air Force Academy Class of 2001), have been proud to serve." Ryan Scheeres is interested in the intelligence, or imagery analysis, career field where he hopes to use his love for photography as well as carrying on the family tradition of the Air Force "I'm also proud of our recruiters across the country who continue to find new Airmen of Ryan's caliber," Colonel Chase said.
