Twenty future Airmen from the New Orleans area publicly pledged their commitment to join the Air Force outside the Louisiana Superdome. Lt. Col. Robert Behnken, a NASA astronaut, administered the Oath of Enlistment for the ceremony. "It was my honor to have the opportunity to be a part of bringing these men and women into the Air Force," the colonel said. "As an Air Force officer and a NASA Astronaut, the Air Force played a big role in helping me to achieve my dreams, and I really appreciated the chance this recruiting event gave me to share my combined Air Force and NASA career path with those I visited with. I wish each of the new recruits the very best and hope the Air Force can help them to reach their highest potential and fulfill their dreams as they begin service to our country." The purpose of the event was not only to entertain, but also to share Air Force awareness and information about job opportunities. "The U.S. Air Force is proud to partner with the New Orleans Saints," said Lt. Col. Mike Brantley, 331st Recruiting Squadron commander. "Professional partnerships like this are extremely beneficial to educate young men and women on career and education opportunities in the Air Force. The Saints have done a wonderful job in supporting our efforts." Colonel Behnken, a Missouri native, was selected by NASA in 2000 and served as a mission specialist aboard space shuttle Endeavor during STS-123. He has logged over 378 hours in space, and more than 1,000 flight hours in more than 25 various aircraft.
