331st RCS in New Orleans ensure safety against Hurricane Gustav Published Sept. 3, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Adrian A. Bray 331st Recruiting Squadron MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Airmen of the 331st Recruiting Squadron assigned to offices in the New Orleans area faced extraordinary challenges this past holiday weekend as they prepared for Hurricane Gustav's much anticipated arrival. Hurricane Gustav was expected to hit the historic city Sept. 1, Labor Day, which is home to six Air Force recruiting offices and one Military Entrance Processing Station. 1st Lt. Margret Martin, squadron support flight commander, and her team manned the unit control center and diligently worked many hours assisting recruiters and their families. "Lieutenant Martin and her team did an outstanding job of controlling the situation and taking care of our people," said Lt. Col. Mike Brantley, 331st RCS commander. "It was a total team effort with a single focus of getting our people to safety." As a result of the team's actions, more than 50 people were evacuated to safe haven locations outside the danger zone. Recruiting offices were also prepared to weather out the storm and government vehicles moved, when possible, to minimize loss. The 331st RCS, headquartered in Montgomery, Ala., has recruiting offices located throughout the southeast, including the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia; covering a region approximately 99,000 square miles.
