The recent teamwork of a 339th Recruiting Squadron Health Professions recruiter and an Air Force dental resident assigned to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, drew smiles at the 95th Annual National Dental Association convention in Detroit, Mich., July 25-30.

The idea that the best way to share what life is like for Air Force dentists is to provide personal testimony inspired Tech. Sgt. Kevin Harvey and Capt. (Dr.) Daren Mairs to team up to share Air Force job opportunities at the five-day event.

Capt. Mairs epitomized the idea, "We are all recruiters," by taking every opportunity to enlighten civilian dentists at the convention about a dentist's life in the Air Force, said Sergeant Harvey.

"Capt. Mairs provided invaluable assistance by answering many clinical questions," he said.

In addition to speaking with guests, Capt. Mairs and the recruiter handed out more than 500 pamphlets about Air Force dentistry.

Capt. Mairs is currently assigned to a one-year advanced education in general dentistry resident at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He graduates his residency in mid-August at the top of his class and said he looks forward to his first assignment at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.

Comprised of 48 state and local chapters throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean, the National Dental Association represents more than 6,000 minority dentists and the concerns of ethnic minorities in dentistry.
