Twenty-one future Airmen took the oath of enlistment June 28, at one of the largest events in the history of the Montgomery Biscuits. Lt. Gen. Allen G. Peck, Air University commander, administered the oath during the minor baseball league's Military Appreciation Night.

In his second appearance as commander of Air University the general said it was his privilege to "induct these fine individuals who have decided to join our Air Force to protect our rights and freedom."

Helena Ballard, Montgomery Biscuits marketing assistant, said that through a partnership with the previous Air University commander, the Biscuits offer discounts each Wednesday for military members, and the appreciation event grew out of that.

"We like offering the Wednesday event because it provides an additional form of entertainment for local military personnel," she said. "The appreciation night helped us show our gratitude to Maxwell-Gunter for all they do."

Prior to the game, General Peck expressed his appreciation to the Biscuits for the honor and said he was proud to a part of the River Region.

"We cannot let the night go by, however, without remembering those who are not here with us but are supporting the War on Terrorism," he said. "God bless them."

Also in attendance were 72 cadets from Officer Training School who stood at attention during the opening ceremonies. International officers from 77 different countries were recognized, and the Maxwell Honor Guard presented the colors and rendered a 21-gun salute.

The Air National Guard's 187th Fighter Wing from Dannelly Field provided a two-ship fly-over, and at the end of the seventh inning the Maxwell-Gunter Men's Chorale performed "God Bless America."

At the conclusion of the game, all branches of the military were recognized when those in attendance from each service stood as that service's song was played. The grand finale was a fireworks show in tribute to members of the military.
