338th RCS rings in 81st consecutive monthly recruiting goal Published May 9, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Chad Tanner 338th Recruiting Squadron WRIGHT PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The 338th Recruiting Squadron recently clanged in praise of reaching its monthly enlisted recruiting goal for the 81st consecutive time. Squadron officials followed the tradition of ringing the unit bell, announcing a significant feat, after receiving confirmation that the unit met its April goal of helping 64 qualified men and women land Air Force careers. "Ringing of the bell signifies that our recruiters are bringing home the bacon," Lt. Col. Kent Dalton, 338th RCS commander, said. "It means that everyone in the squadron is working together, firing on all cylinders, doing the right things the right way." The 338th RCS, headquartered in Dayton, is responsible for covering more than 51,256 square miles in Ohio, West Virginia and northern Kentucky. The Air Force has more than 150 enlisted career field openings from which to choose, and recruiters work to find the right people for those jobs. Security forces, mechanics, administration and electronics are the most plentiful career opportunities for 2008. Hard-to-fill enlisted career fields include air and ground linguists and special operations, such as combat controller, survival instructor and pararescue. "Meeting monthly goals consecutively for nearly seven years means the squadron is successfully finding the right mix of people at the right time to ensure Air Force combat capability," said Colonel Dalton. "It's very difficult to sustain this type of recruiting excellence for this long."
