The 336th Recruiting Squadron had the honor of presenting retired Lt. Col. Alfonzo Jackson the Air Force Recruiting Salutes Award March 7 in recognition of the Tuskegee Airman's outstanding support to Air Force recruiting.

When Colonel Jackson was introduced to the gathering of 25 recruiters and staff, the audience sprang to their feet and gave enthusiastic applause.

"Colonel Jackson, this standing ovation says it all," said Lt. Col. Van Hook, 336th RCS commander at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. "These airmen know what the Tuskegee Airmen experience means."

Before giving the floor to Colonel Jackson, Augusta-based recruiter Tech. Sgt. John Pryhoda recounted the Tuskegee Airman's sustained contributions to the recruiting mission including participating in more than 20 school visits and numerous Delayed Entry Program commander's calls and air shows, and participating in several high school and college distinguished visitor visits in Georgia and South Carolina.

Colonel Jackson, who also serves with the Civil Air Patrol, recounted his experience as a Tuskegee Airman noting just how far we've come as a nation.

"The youth of today are making the same positive contributions to the military, and I thank you for making it possible for them to serve as I have," he said.

During the presentation, Colonel Van Hook said, "Some heroes continue being heroes long after the battle is won. We thank you, Colonel Jackson, for your past and continued service to our Air Force and nation." (Article courtesy of the 336th RCS)
