Air Education and Training Command has selected Tech Sgt. Taneshia L. Lucas, assigned to the 341st Recruiting Squadron, Lackland AFB, Texas, as its 2006 Personnel Manager of the Year in the NCO category.

Reflecting on her award, Sergeant Lucas said, "There are days when personnelists feel under-appreciated for the time, effort, and dedication they invest in their jobs. I am truly grateful to know that there are rewards waiting down the road, but they won't come without cost."

She went on to say this past year was one of the hardest, yet most rewarding experiences of her life.

"I had no prior experience being placed in such a one-deep position, and spent countless hours learning what needed to be done," Lucas said. "Through it all, I discovered that you can achieve anything if you have the heart and desire to do it."

A 13-year Air Force veteran, Sergeant Lucas served four years in Air Force Recruiting Service headquarters as Western Region Program Manager and later earned the respect and recognition from many of her peers at Lackland Air Force Base. She strives to excel all that she does, even obtaining a masters degree in Human Resource Management. Sergeant Lucas is a perfect example of today's NCO and her performance epitomizes the Air Force core values.

"Sergeant Lucas is, without a doubt, one of the best personnel specialists I've worked with in my career," said Lt. Col. John Poast, 341st Recruiting Squadron commander.

"She takes her role of providing support to our recruiters very seriously and often takes care of the little things we take for granted without being told to do them. Sergeant Lucas is one of my key advisors and is truly deserving of this recognition," Colonel Poast said.

Sergeant Lucas is in-charge of the commander' s support staff, but it is a one deep position. She provides support to 140 recruiters and their families over a geographically disbursed area that covers more than 110,000 square miles.

Each year, the Air Education and Training Command recognize its best personnel managers for their outstanding support and diligent contributions to the AETC mission, members, and their families.
