Major League Baseball's Florida Marlin has held their annual Dominican Heritage Celebration night, Sept. 21, which included special guests Leonel Fernendez Reyna, President of the Dominican Republic, and Brigadier General, Suzanne M. Vautrinot, commander of Air Force Recruiting Service. The Air Force's 333rd Recruiting Squadron worked with the Marlins marketing team to organize the event.

The unit organized a swear-in for a multitude of future Airmen before the start of the game between the Marlins and the New York Mets. Brigadier General Vautrinot not only conducted the swear-in, but also honored with the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a home game in front of a crowd of 25,666 fans. Brigadier General Vautrinot graciously passed that honor on to new enlistee Adrian Garcia.

Garcia, of Dominican decent, is currently in the delayed entry program waiting to depart for basic military training and later become a Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) specialist. Staff Sergeant Ricardo Miguez-Pazo, Adrian's recruiter in Miami, Florida, said he is very proud of him and his decision to enlist in the Air Force.

"He sets the example for other youths to follow," Sergeant Miguez-Pazo emphasized.

Adrian said, "The opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a Major League game has been a dream since childhood."

How fitting that the Air Force would be at this particular game, as it is a military service of diversity. The Air Force is all about the people, hiring the right people for the right jobs, at the right time. For the future Airmen stating the oath, it was definitely a night to remember.

SERE is just one of the critical fill special operations enlisted career fields that the Air Force is tracking.  Other Special Ops careers include, pararescue, special operations weathermen, and combat controllers.
