The Air Force's "Do Something Amazing" Web site garnered two major industry awards Sept. 18, according to Air Force Recruiting Service officials.

DoSomethingAmazing.com swept through the Web Marketing Association's annual WebAwards, winning for best government site and best military site.

"This recognition is a credit to the vision of everyone who has worked so hard to make the site appeal to young people," said Col. Brian Madtes, AFRS Strategic Communications Division chief. "The Do Something Amazing campaign really seems to be hitting its intended target."

The WebAwards selects the best Web sites in 96 industries while setting a benchmark for web development. All sites are judged based upon innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use. This year, Web sites from 33 countries were considered.

One of the competition judges, commenting on the DSA Web site, noted, "For another product, I would hate this site, [because] it violates so many basic rules of web design, but for this client...sweet. This shows the design firm really understood the product, the target audience, and how to sell it. This is the one, and only perfect 10 I have given, no one else has deserved it."

The "Do Something Amazing" Web site, opened in September 2006, is an interactive site featuring Air Force videos, photographs, downloads and other information. It is operated by the service' s contracted advertising agency, GSD&M's Idea City, in conjunction with Air Force Recruiting Service.

The site's newest initiative allows Airmen the opportunity to upload personal videos highlighting the amazing things they do on a regular basis. The best of these videos are then made available for public viewing.

The 2006 WebAward winners for best government site and military site were the National Library of Scotland and todaysmilitary.com, respectively.
