Just like every other Air Force Recruiting Service squadron, the 319th RCS has replenished our nation's Air Force with thousands of Airmen over the years; thereby laying the foundation for the U.S. Air Force to deliver airpower for America.

As a symbolic act to underscore the squadron mantra; "Airpower Starts in Our Own Neighborhood," the 319th initiated a heritage wall (designed by Staff Sgt. Sean Ward) that showcases exemplary Airmen who have, or still are, contributing to airpower. Each one of these great Airmen helped shape our nation's Air Force legacy; and some continue to leave their fingerprints all over our institution. All of them serve as an example and inspiration for other Airmen to emulate.

To fulfill this project, each flight was tasked to research our heritage and select a worthy Airman stemming from their flight's zone. Take a look and you'll surely recognize some of these names. As a matter of fact, a few of these Airmen are prominently displayed at the Heritage Park at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. Others, such as Tech. Sgt. John Chapman, may not be household names, but paid the ultimate price for their nation.

A-Flight: Capt. Harl Pease - U.S. Army Air Corps World War II Medal of Honor recipient
B-Flight: Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James A. Cody - Current CMSAF
C-Flight: Senior Master Sgt. Paul Veresko - Operation Iraqi Freedom Bronze Star recipient
D-Flight: Maj Charles J. Loring -- Korean War Medal Of Honor recipient
E-Flight: Sgt John Levitow -Vietnam War Medal Of Honor recipient
F-Flight: Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Paul Airey - First Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force
G-Flight: Tech. Sgt. John Chapman - Operation Enduring Freedom Air Force Cross recipient
H-Flight: Brig. Gen. Michael Collins - NASA astronaut

Each one of these Airmen is a reminder that airpower does indeed start in our own neighborhood. Who knows, tomorrow one of AFRS' professional recruiters might just enlist a future Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force!

Just like CMSAF Cody remembers his own recruiter (Sgt. Frappier) as inspiring, reflective of the team he wanted to be a part of, AFRS recruiters of today will have the same positive impact on a young applicant's life.
