The event, held at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, N.J., honored 24 of New Jersey's most inspiring and influential teachers who went above and beyond to help their students achieve and succeed. The banquet has been recognizing outstanding performers in the New Jersey academic community since 2007; since then it has recognized more than 520 teachers and 20 educational support professionals. "This is a great program because there are so many great teachers out there," said Tony Odachowski, director of the Greater Media New Jersey Interactive and Non-traditional Revenue. "During early childhood education, most of the students define their goals in life in consultation with their teachers. Everyone can remember that one teacher who had a positive influence." Capt. Omar Johnson, 314th RCS Operations Flight commander, presented the Crystal Apple award to LaToya Evans, an 8th grade biology teacher at the Morris County School of Technology. Evans was selected for her work and dedication in explaining the complex concepts of biology in plain language for her students, ensuring all of her students understood these concepts fully, and devoting her time outside of the classroom for students who need extra help.
