Senior Master Sgt. Carmelo Vega, 368th Recruiting Squadron production superintendent (left), stands next to his son at his reenlistment ceremony, at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, March 17. Vega is deployed as an adviser with the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing/NATO Air Training Command-Afghanistan, while his son, Staff Sgt. Jean Vega, 41st Rescue Squadron flight engineer, is deployed with the 83rd Air Expeditionary Rescue Squadron. “I am so proud of this young man,” Vega said. “He is a great Airman and noncommissioned officer. He loves his job and he loves to serve. He started out as an F-16 crew chief; then when his retraining window opened up, he decided he wanted to fly and became a flight engineer. This is his first deployment as a fully qualified flight engineer and he is enjoying every minute of it. He has completed over 15 missions in just less than one month in the area of responsibility.” (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jason Robertson)
