Members of the 345th Recruiting Squadron gathered to honor one of their own at the Chief Master Sergeant Recognition Ceremony at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Jan. 24. Senior Master Sgt. Michael Kovach, 345th RCS production superintendent, was among 16 chief master sergeants and chief-selects being recognized.

Chief Master Sgt. Martin Klukas, U.S. Transportation Command senior enlisted leader, was the guest speaker for the evening. He advised the new chiefs to lead with TLC -- Trust, Levity and Courage.

Klukas highlighted the challenges currently facing the Air Force, and said the selectees will be expected to lead through them, trusting the institution and seeking to understand the "why" behind what needs to be done. With regard to levity, he noted that if "you're not having fun doing what you do, you're probably making a lot of people miserable."

Finally, he instructed personnel to lead with courage and not do things just because that's the way it's always been done.
