Flat Stanley goes Air Force

Flat Stanley returns home in a C-17 cargo aircraft, wearing a new customized flight suit given to him by attendees of a conference in February at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. Brig. Gen. Suzanne Vautrinot, Air Force Recruiting Service commander, and her husband Bill Keller received a letter and the paper doll in February from their niece, Nikki, who lives in Wisconsin. Nikki requested her aunt and uncle assist her with a second-grade project by taking Flat Stanley with them on trips and writing to her about the doll’s adventures. Since 1995, the Flat Stanley Project has become a popular way for teachers to instruct letter writing, inspire reading and introduce young students to geography. (U.S. Air Force photo)
