ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Be at least 16 years old by 1 June of the flight training year.
  • Be enrolled in high school* or homeschool during the flight training year.
  • Be a US citizen **
  • Have no more than 5 powered flight hours 
  • 3.0 current Grade Point Average either with an unofficial GPA Transcript or a registrar/counselor verifiable memorandum.

Notes: 

  • No flight or aviation experience necessary (we teach you to fly!)  
  • No commitment or obligation to the Air Force  
  • *USAFA & AFROTC Cadets may apply through their institutions
  • **Non-US Citizens regardless of residency status are ineligible to apply

As a North Carolina Air National Guard unit, the 145th Airlift Wing is “operationally gained” by the Air Mobility Command (AMC) and maintains a worldwide deployment capability in support of both AMC and unified combatant commander tasking. The 145 AW is comprised of several wing staff agencies, including the 145th Operations Group, the 145th Maintenance Group, the 145th Mission Support Group, 145th Medical Group, and the 145th Combat Operations Group. In addition the 145th AW supports the 156th Weather Flight at Charlotte ANGB.

The 145th Airlift Wing was established on March 15th 1948 and resides at the Charlotte ANGB at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport as well as the Airport in Stanly County North Carolina. The Unit currently operates the C-17 Globemaster III aircraft he C-17 which is the newest, most flexible cargo aircraft in the airlift force and can perform tactical airlift and airdrop missions.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS RECEIVE* 

  • Up to 12-15 flight hours 
  • Housing and meals during training 
  • Transportation to/from training location 
  • Classroom training (ground school) 
  • Flight simulator training 
  • All training is provided by FAA Certified Flight Instructors 
  • Access to university recreation facilities 
  • Mentorship from Air Force aviators  

*All items funded by USAF except:

  • FAA Class III Med Certificate
  • Luggage during travel
  • Personal driving to/from university assigned session
