ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Be at least 16 years old by 1 June of the flight training year.
  • Be enrolled in high school* or homeschool during the flight training year.
  • Be a US citizen **
  • Have no more than 5 powered flight hours 
  • 3.0 current Grade Point Average either with an unofficial GPA Transcript or a registrar/counselor verifiable memorandum.

Notes: 

  • No flight or aviation experience necessary (we teach you to fly!)  
  • No commitment or obligation to the Air Force  
  • *USAFA & AFROTC Cadets may apply through their institutions
  • **Non-US Citizens regardless of residency status are ineligible to apply

Lead: While the real Olympics may be underway in Rio, Airmen at Fairchild Air Force Base decided to make their own maintenance version. Technical sergeant Jason Bailey has more.

NARRATION: IT’S HOT, IT’S SUNNY, AND IT’S TIME FOR A RACE!

NARRATION: THIS RELAY RACE, AFFECTIONATELY DUBBED, “THE MAINTENANCE SUMMER OLYMPICS,” CONSISTS OF 4 EVENTS ALL TIMED AND MEASURED.

NAT SOUND: “COME ON FOR THE RECORD! PICK IT UP! PICK IT UP!”

NAT SOUND: “ERHHHGHG!!” KER-PLOP

NAT SOUND: “THAT WAS HORRIBLE.”

NARRATION: DON’T WORRY, THAT’S NOT A REAL BOMB. SO, WHY DID THE COMMANDER APPROVE SUCH SHENANIGANS?

MSgt Chad Gygi, QA Chief Inspector: “Colonel Hart, the Group Commander, wants to get a little bit more camaraderie and teamwork and basically just boost everybody’s esprit de corp.”

NARRATION: AND THE WINNER IS…

  • Access to university recreation facilities

*All items funded by USAF except:

  • FAA Class III Med Certificate
  • Luggage during travel
  • Personal driving to/from university assigned session
