The AMSOIL/U.S. Air Force/Rockstar Energy Drink Ski-Doo squad was recognized as the 2012 Team of the Year for the International Series of Champions, Inc. (ISOC) in Lake Geneva, Wis., March 17-18, at the AMSOIL Pro Open March 17-18.

Robbie Malinoski and Darrin Mees earned the honors for their accomplishments on the track and their efforts to promote the sport and its sponsors.

Both squad members scored impressive wins in the open. On the first day, Malinoski finished second and claimed his 10th podium of the season. On March 18, he raced to a fourth place aboard his Ski-Doo, securing the third spot overall in the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series.

Teammate Mees raced to a sixth place win on March 17, and despite an early race tangle the following day, was able to finish the season fourth overall. That earned Mees the ISOC Rookie of the Year honors.

Unseasonably 80-degree temperatures plagued the championship, and the team struggled with clutching and carburetion during the qualifying rounds, but found the sweet spot when it counted. A massive Chicagoland crowd turned out in T-shirts and sandals to enjoy the scenic conclusion to one of the most competitive snocross seasons in history.

"For sure we hit a home run both on and off the track," said Steve Scheuring, Scheuring Speed Sports team owner. "Our relationship with the Air Force is one I am extremely proud of and feel honored to be a part of the promotion of the Air Force's mission."

Before the event, the team awarded the last of 16 Race to the Future academic scholarships at Lake Geneva High School. On hand for the award presentations were Tech. Sgt. Christopher Robson, a Special Events NCO at Air Force Recruiting Service, and Tech. Sgt. Will Roskopf, an enlisted accessions recruiter with the 347th Recruiting Squadron.

"Mr. Scheuring and his team are truly awesome!" Roskopf said. "The interaction between his team and the students was fantastic. Mr. Sheuring's team awarded one of the school's top automotive class performers with a scholarship. This allowed me to invite senior school leadership to our presentation and to celebrate this student's success."

Roskopf said that because of this interaction, "I now have the principal and vice principal showing huge support for the Air Force and I've already been invited back for more classroom visits."

"It has been a honor being partnered with such a great team over the last 10 years," added Robson. "Many other teams envy Steve's ability to carefully pick and mentor great racers and able to take care of all his sponsors. Steve's dedication to the sport and to the Air Force is evident in everything that Scheuring Speed Sports does. This commitment is what has propelled this team to the top spot."
