Air Force Chief of Staff swears-in new military recruits at Military Bowl 2011

General Norton Schwartz, Air Force chief of staff, conducted a joint swear-in of eight new Air Force and Coast Guard recruits during the Military Bowl here Dec. 28.

Schwartz was accompanied by the Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force, James Roy. The new military recruits took the oath of enlistment on the field in front of 25,000 Military Bowl fans.

"It was a once in a lifetime experience to get sworn in by the Chief of Staff," said Rebecca Battles, Coast Guard recruit. "It's truly an event to remember!"

Master Sgt. Jivaro Johnson, 317th Recruiting Squadron recruiter, led the detail onto the field for the swear-in.

"It was an honor to turn the detail over to General Schwartz and Chief Roy," he said. "Events like this signify the trust our senior leaders place in our ability to inspire America's best and brightest towards serving our nation. The recruits will remember this solemn event for the rest of their lives."

The Military Bowl was televised live nationally on ESPN.

The Air Force was defeated by the Toledo Falcons, 42-41.
