Airman's Roll Call highlights Airmen's education benefits Published Aug. 9, 2007 SAN ANTONIO (AFPN) -- Just because this week's Airman' s Roll Call highlights the importance of education for the professional and personal development available to all active-duty Airmen, this does not mean it cannot be a subject of interest for a new recruit. Delayed enlistment program people and new recruits need to know they can advance their educational goals through base education centers and the Air Force Virtual Education Center once enlisted and serving on active duty. Airmen have countless educational benefits right at their fingertips. For instance, the Air Force Tuition Assistance Program pays up to $4,500 in tuition and fees per year for college courses; the Montgomery G.I. Bill ("Kicker") Buy-up Program allows active-duty service members to increase their total benefits up to $5,400; education centers offer free education counseling services to members; and CLEP and DANTES testing, which can cost $80 or more in the civilian sector. These programs are free to Airmen and can count as college credit toward certain degree programs. More information about these and other Air Force education benefits are available at base education centers and new recruits can go online to the AFVEC Web site through the Air Force Portal. Airman' s Roll Call is primarily designed for supervisors at all levels to help keep Airmen informed on current issues, clear up confusion, dispel rumors and provide additional face-to-face communication.
