WARNER ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The Air Force Reserve expands financial incentives for fully qualified enlisted Airmen looking to continue their military service, making it easier for active-duty Airmen, prior-service, Air National Guardsmen, and current Reserve Airmen to continue serving while earning a bonus and building financial freedom.
The Fiscal Year 2026 Summer Surge Incentive Program, available through Sept. 30, 2026, offers a $10,000 lump-sum payment to eligible enlisted Airmen who commit to a three-year service commitment in the Air Force Reserve.
The updated incentive guidance expands eligibility by opening the program to all Air Force specialty codes, creating new opportunities for qualified Airmen regardless of career field. The initiative supports the Reserve's mission to retain experienced talent while strengthening readiness through increased recruiting and retention.
Lt. Col. Scott Black, director of operations, 367th Recruiting Group, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, said, "These targeted incentives significantly boost our ability to retain fully qualified Airmen in the Department of the Air Force, maintaining force readiness and critical skills despite current recruiting challenges."
Eligibilities include:
-
Prior-service accessions filling a valid vacancy
-
Reserve Component Affiliation Incentive Bonus for active-duty Airmen affiliating into a valid non-overage Reserve vacancy
-
Selective retention for fully qualified Airmen
-
Reenlistments across all Air Force specialty codes and Reserve locations
The expanded program provides greater flexibility for Airmen considering continued military service while helping Reserve units retain experienced, mission-ready Citizen Airmen across the Total Force.
“These bonuses are an excellent tool in helping the Air Force Reserve remain competitive while retaining our Air Force’s fully qualified and top talent,” said Chief Master Sgt. Derek Hudson, 367 RCG senior enlisted leader. “Whether you’re transitioning from the active-duty Air Force, Air National Guard, Individual Ready Reserve, or continuing your career in the Air Force Reserve, these incentives can help make serving in the Reserve an even more attractive opportunity.”
Airmen interested in the incentive program should contact their In-Service Recruiter to determine eligibility and complete the required applications. Additional execution guidance has been provided to the Air Reserve Personnel Center, Headquarters Readiness Integration Organization, Wing Talent Management Consultants, Military Personnel Flights, and Force Support Squadrons to ensure consistent processing throughout the AFR.
