LIEUTENANT COLONEL CARLY A. OMIZO

Lt. Col. Carly Omizo is the Deputy Department Head for Physical Education in the Directorate of Athletics at the United States Air Force Academy. She leads a team of five diverse divisions to support the Department of the Air Force Combatives Program Center of Excellence, intercollegiate men’s and women’s boxing teams, cadet intramurals, basic training physical fitness, fitness testing for 11,000 cadets annually, and 24 physical education classes for roughly 4,200 cadets.


Lt. Col. Omizo was commissioned from the United States Air Force Academy in 2006. She served as the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Unit Officer in Charge, Maintenance Operations Officer, and Fabrications Flight Commander in the 15th Maintenance Group, Hickam Air Force Base (AFB), Hawaii supporting operations in USINDOPACOM and Operations IRAQI REEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. She was deployed to Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay as the Air Operations and Country Clearances Officer where she directly supported Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and the Global War on Terror.


As a core acquisitions officer, Lt Col Omizo was a Program Manager for the F-16, A-10, RQ-4, and MQ-1 mission planners; was the Gateway program manager under the $270 million Tactical Air Control Party systems portfolio; and most recently worked as Program Manager for the $6.4 billion Next Generation Operational Control System: the ground segment, command and control system for all modernized and legacy Global Positioning System satellites.


Lt Col Omizo is originally from Kailua, Hawaii and in 2016 was competitively selected for the United States Air Force Academy Faculty Pipeline program, receiving her doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of Southern California in 2019.
