Lieutenant Colonel THOMAS L. HARRIS

Lt Col Tommy Harris is from Augusta, Georgia, and is married to Lt Col Claudia Harris of Colorado Springs. She also serves in the U.S. Space Force as the deployed commander of CDET 3-1 at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. Lt Col Harris currently serves as Director of Staff for Space Delta 3 at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado. He enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard on 13 December 2000 and was commissioned on 15 August 2005 after graduating from Georgia College and State University. He initially served as a Military Police Officer and spent 2.5 years deployed to Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, and United States European Command (USEUCOM). 

His first assignment was as a Platoon Leader with the 142nd MP Company in Korea. He and his wife then completed a Consecutive Overseas Tour to Mannheim, Germany, where he worked in S-3 Operations and later as Battalion S-4. He was selected to command the first active-duty detachment to deploy to Guantanamo Bay. Following command, he served as an Observer-Controller/Trainer with the Mission Command Training Program, mentoring officers on the Protection Warfighting Function. In 2018, he transitioned to the Army Space Operations (FA40) career field. After completing Intermediate Level Education at the Command and General Staff College, he was assigned to the Pentagon as Space Organizational Integrator on the Army Staff (HQDA G-3/5/7). When the U.S. Space Force was established in December 2019, Lt Col Harris was among 12 Army officers selected to help stand up its Pentagon headquarters. He led efforts to establish the first USSF Watch, Crisis Action Team/Continuity of Operations (CAT/COOP), and Mission Assurance programs. In December 2021, he became one of the first four Army officers to commission into the Space Force. He later assumed duties as Director of Staff for Space Delta 3 at Peterson SFB.
